Rihanna and her longtime beau, Chris Brown, appeared to be arguing the other night. This is not news, most couples exchange a little tit for tat every once in while (arguably some more than others). But what followed after strong language and glaring glances went a step too far, maybe for even Amy Winehouse standards. Law enforcement officials have photographs of a badly injured Rihanna, complete with contusions on her face, a split upper lip, a bloody nose and bite marks on her arms and fingers. Brown was charged as the perpetrator and now not only faces criminal charges, but also massive fallout from fans and recording companies. He was also dropped from the Wrigley Chewing gum advertisement campaign in light of these new allegations. The two stars were reported no-shows at the recent Grammy Awards where both were scheduled to perform onstage and both were nominated for awards. For her part, Rihanna has announced that she is postponing a show scheduled to take place in Kuala Lumpur on February 13. She has promised fans that she will in fact put another date on the calendar as soon as things are straightened out and resolved. Many will remember that Rihanna created a lot of controversy for her upcoming gig in Malaysia because of her revealing attire. The Muslim majority in Malaysia has strict rules on performers’ clothing attire and has had issues with past musicians that have performed in the country. Representatives for Rihanna have previously said that the singer would forgo the skimpy costumes for something a little more conservative. Now that will have to wait.

Rihanna’s huge fanbase is rallying behind her after Sunday’s news. Several other stars have already spoken out in support of her, as she is the victim in this disturbing story. One such star who offered words of comfort for the beautiful young singer was none other than Kanye West. West went on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show to say this: “All I want to say is, it’s so devastating. Just as a person, I don’t care how famous she is or even if she just worked at McDonald’s…abuse should never happen. It should never come to that place.”

Rihanna initially jumped onto the music scene in summer 2005 with her debut smash hit, “Pon de Replay.” It was enormous hit for the young star and immediately propelled her to the top of the charts. Her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, was the gem that carried Rihanna to international stardom and her popularity has not yet waned. Currently she reigns as one of the top R&B crooners today and continues to captivate her many fans with her sultry voice. All fans are hoping that Rihanna will get back on the stage soon. At this point, there is no guarantee yet when Rihanna will decide to emerge back into the public eye and entrance us all once again with her beautifully delicate voice.
